The International Network of Women in Emergency Management salutes the Honorable Lindy Boggs

Message from Dr. Jacqueline McBride, CEM:

It is moments like these that I thank God for whispering in my ear and exclaiming “Honor My People”. In my obedience to Him, I have dedicated a life time honoring others by giving them flowers and tokens of appreciation while they are alive. Last year, inWEM inducted Hon. Boggs into the International Women in Homeland Security and Emergency Management Hall of Fame, held in conjunction with the IAEM-USA 60th Annual Conference & EMEX. “Hon. Lindy Boggs, we salute you, good and faithful servant, well done!!!”

As a beloved and extremely effective legislator and representative of a New Orleans Congressional district, the Honorable Corinne “Lindy” Claiborne Boggs clearly understood the importance of improving disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation.  She was a tireless supporter of emergency management and the National Flood Insurance Program in her roles as a member of the Appropriations Subcommittees with jurisdiction over FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers and in her earlier service on the House Committee on Banking and Currency.  Her deep understanding of the substance, her determination, and her great charm all contributed to her legislative success. While serving in Congress from 1973-1990, she spearheaded legislation on various issues, ranging from emergency management, to civil rights, to women’s access to credit in their own names, to government service pay equity for women.
